Facsimiles Group Exhibition
“Facsimiles,” is on view Thursday, May 26, through Saturday, June 11, at SVA Gramercy Gallery, 209 East 23rd Street, New York City.
The work in “Facsimiles” focuses on each artist's desire to transform what already exists. For instance, Yimei Wang’s photographs depict arrangements of food constructed from everyday items. However, transformation is not as literally illustrated in Kenneth Greenwood’s photographs, in which wrestlers are captured in the midst of what looks like high-speed action, but are actually moving in a slow motion practice session. Using a fax machine as a metaphor, the exhibition questions the concept of authenticity when information is lost in transmission.
Participating artists include Angelique Ambrosio, Shiri Paamary Eshel, Haoran Fan, Ze Gao, Kenneth Greenwood, Bomi Kim, Maya Luo, Karolina Majewska, Jessica Pettway, Dana Stirling, Yimei Wang, Alliyah Wheaton, Madelene Wikskaer, Iris Xing, Mijia Xu and Zijie Zhu.
Reception: Thursday, June 2 5:00 – 7:00pm
